Identity Collage Artist Statement“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” - Pablo Picasso. When I was younger I used to paint or use watercolor to express myself freely. Now that I am getting older it has become harder to be creative. I have had difficulty figuring out what mediums of art I could use. My teacher, Ms. Tanttila, is good at helping me with ideas of what to do.
Recently, my teacher challenged me to create a piece only using magazines. I have never worked with magazines before. That being said, creating this piece was sometimes challenging. I had difficulty with getting the pieces to stay in place. Other aspects of creating this artwork were easier than what I had expected. Finding the pieces for the background was easier than I thought. If you look at the background of my artwork, you will see a cow, cat, and a pumpkin. The reason I have these is because I like them. My teacher has inspired me to create works of art true to myself and to try different mediums of art to express myself. I love to explore the different ways to create art. It was a new fun challenge to work with. |

Real Anatomy of Technology Artist Statement“The art challenges the technology, and the technology inspires the art.” - John Lasseter. For this art project, my art teacher told us to choose a piece of technology, add human organs to it in whatever way we wanted, and use color pencils; and blend the color pencils.
I chose to do a grandfather clock. When I was looking at pictures on the internet, I saw a picture of a grandfather clock that looked familiar to me. My grandpa built a grandfather clock in his house and this picture reminds me of that clock. When I began to draw the grandfather clock, I had issues with it starting to lean. After a lot of trial and error; I finally got it to straighten out. After I drew my picture of the grandfather clock, I only used different shades of brown to color the clock. My teacher then asked us to send her our progress. After seeing my artwork she challenged me to use different colors. I added red, orange, yellow, and purple. The drawing looked colorful, but you could tell it was made of wood. My grandpa would like the drawing because he would be able to see that it is the clock he made. He would also like how colorful the clock is. Technology has inspired art, by using what some individuals would deem as trash and turn it into a beautiful piece of art. |

The Value of Words Artist Statement“Language is the dress of thought.” - Samuel Johnson. Words are how we communicate. We need words to talk and write to each other. Words, when written in a song, have a new meaning of what the song writer wanted us to have. Which is why I chose to use a song in my project. My teacher challenged my class and I, by having us use words to create a piece of art.
I decided to draw a coffee cup on a small plate, a book, and a muffin. The coffee represents the morning and waking up. I love to read, so I incorporated it into my artwork. Breakfast is very important to me, so I added a muffin to my piece. The words that were used to create the piece is from a song. The song is Easy by Stray Kids. The song is inspiring to me, because it motivates me to get something done. The challenging part was drawing the coffee cup; especially when I filled in the outline of the cup. It turned out to be a successful risk. Working on this project wasn’t always easy, but I believe the work paid off and I have created a great piece of artwork to cherish. Using words to create a piece of art was fun. Easy is an amazing song. Samuel Johnson has a point with “Language is the dress of thought.” sometimes words just don't cut it. Meaning some thoughts are too deep for individuals to use words. |

Art Awareness Artist Statement“I never paint dreams or nightmares. I paint my own reality.” - Frida Kahlo. The project my art teacher gave my classmates and I is called Art Awareness. She wanted us to pick a social issue and have us to do whatever we wanted with it, as long as it was appropriate.
I decided to go with the LGBTQ+ Community. I went with the rainbow flag for the background. When I first started, I didn’t make the lines for the rainbow big enough; so I started over. I painted this in watercolor, it was the first project I did with it. I wanted to do something else and not just watercolor, so I collaged the words Love is Love with magazines. I put black sharpie to separate the flag colors. This is one of my favorite projects I’ve done. Watercolor was fun to use. Collaging the words Love is Love was a little difficult. People do paint their own realities. They decide what they want to do in life. |
